The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the position of Senior Network Engineer in the Information Technology Services Department. The Senior Network Engineer role is a fantastic opportunity to proactively manage and grow the Information Technology team and infrastructure. We are looking for a candidate to play a critical role in supporting the smooth daily operations of the City of Fond du Lac; this includes the planning, design, 24×7 management, configuration, and coordination of the corporate LAN/WAN. This position also manages network security and policies. The Senior Network Engineer must thrive in a fast-paced office environment and consistently meet deadlines with both efficiency and effectiveness. This role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities while handling frequent interruptions. Strong organizational skills, a sense of urgency, sound decision-making abilities, and effective task prioritization are essential for success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Preferred professional certification (ACSA, ACNSA, CCNA, CCNP, CISSP), or related certifications, or a combination of diverse education and experience in the field of Networking and Security. Senior Network Engineer
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties and hours may be required and assigned to conduct City services, including nights and/or weekends.
• Designs, implements and maintains both local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) infrastructure, including routers, switches, wireless systems, and applications servers.
• Troubleshoots and resolves network issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability across all network systems.
• Evaluate and recommend network hardware, software, and communication solutions to fulfill both current and future organizational requirements and oversee the installation of necessary hardware and software.
• Tests network systems to identify and address problems and proactively seek improvements to enhance network efficiency.
• Documents and maintains standards for network architecture and configuration to ensure consistency and compliance.
• Develops and oversees procedures for network problem management, disaster recovery, and system changes, ensuring business continuity.
• Directs testing and develops procedures for problem management, disaster recovery, and network and system changes.
• Maintains accurate records and documentation of city-owned fiber assets and related infrastructure.
• Plans, designs, develops and integrates information or hardware systems to safeguard against cyber threats and ensure network security.
• Establishes, maintains, and tests security and emergency policies and procedures to protect network integrity.
• Develops and delivers training on cybersecurity policies and procedures to staff, fostering a culture of security awareness.
• Provides project management, including project scoping, troubleshooting, issues resolution, documentation, and customer support throughout the project life cycle.
Requirements include an associate degree in information systems or computer science-related field, a preferred bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 6-7 years working as a network engineer or in a related position in the information technology field; or a combination of education, training, and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.Additional Info
