Credit Analyst

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Credit Analyst Supervisor oversees the commercial credit analysis function and is responsible for supervising, mentoring, and developing a team of commercial credit analysts. This role analyzes and prepares complex financial summaries, credit presentations, and management reports used in lending decisions for new loans, renewals, and extensions. The position ensures high quality credit analysis, compliance with loan policy and regulatory standards, and consistent application of the Bank’s credit philosophy while providing leadership, coaching, and performance management to assigned staff.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1.  Conducts in depth review and analysis of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and supporting documentation for commercial borrowers.
  2. Prepares and reviews complex credit memoranda, loan presentations, financial spreads, and management reports for internal stakeholders, Loan Committee, and senior management.
    3. Analyzes large, complex business and personal loan requests to develop thorough, well supported credit recommendations while ensuring compliance with Bank lending policies.
    4. Determines borrower repayment capacity using appropriate cash flow analysis techniques and evaluates collateral adequacy and structure.
    5. Reviews credit presentations prepared by credit analysts to ensure accuracy, consistency, sound risk assessment, and adherence to policy.
    6. Identifies adverse trends, emerging risks, and portfolio concentrations and communicates findings to management.


SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP:

7. Supervises a team of commercial credit analysts, including work allocation, prioritization, and quality control.
8. Provides ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development to credit analysts to strengthen analytical skills and career growth.
9. Conducts regular one on one meetings with direct reports to review workload, performance, development goals, and training needs.
10. Participates in hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action for supervised staff, in coordination with management and Human Resources.
11. Establishes and reinforces consistent credit analysis standards, processes, and best practices across the credit analyst team.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in evaluating and implementing credit related systems, software, and reporting tools.
2. Supports new business initiatives, product offerings, and technology enhancements impacting credit administration.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience or Qualifications

Minimum Education
A four-year degree in accounting/finance/economics from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. Specialized formal credit training or related experience preferred.

Minimum Experience
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in commercial credit analysis.
Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or leading staff preferred.

• Strong analytical, synthesis, and credit judgment skills
• Advanced knowledge of loan documentation and credit policy
• Experience with cash flow modeling and complex credit structures
• Ability to coach, develop, and evaluate staff performance
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of banking regulations, workflows, and credit administration practices
• Experience with various loan collateral types and documentation requirements

Physical Demands
• Manual dexterity skills for use of computer and other related office systems and equipment.
• Occasional bending, reaching and stooping.
• Occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. is required.
• Frequent visual effort is required. 75-90% of the work day is spent at a computer monitor and/or with written or computer-generated paper documents.
• Frequent sitting is required.
