Apprentice Line Technician
Position Overview
This position participates in a four-year formal training program designed to prepare the employee for journey-level status through the State of Wisconsin Indentured Electric Line Apprentice Program.
Primary responsibilities include performing manual work related to the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of the Utility’s electrical distribution system. Work is performed under the supervision and instruction of the Electric Operations Superintendent, foreman, and fellow line technicians. Responsibilities and skill expectations will progressively increase throughout the apprenticeship period.
The position requires the ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools while working safely in a team-oriented environment.
-Assisting with setting and removing poles
-Stringing primary and secondary wire
-Trimming and felling trees
-Installing and terminating underground residential distribution (URD) facilities
-Assisting with construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of the Utility’s electrical distribution system
-Operating a variety of equipment and tools necessary to perform assigned duties
-Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and wire systems
-Ability to work at heights
-Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
-Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
-Residency within 20 minutes of the Waupun Utilities administrative headquarters
Preferred Qualifications
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Graduation from a power distribution program
-Previous experience in the electrical field or related work experience
Additional Requirements
-CPR certification required (training provided by Waupun Utilities)
-This position is subject to a twelve-month probationary period
-The selected candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment physical evaluation and drug screening prior to hire
