Employment Law Updates (Erica Storm, Bill Fischer) The Trump administration has brought radical shifts in the legal landscape, with employment law being no exception. The presentation will provide a rapid-fire overview of the changes that promise to most impact the work of Human Resources professionals, and suggestions as to how to prepare for the uncertainties that still lie ahead. The presentation will also touch on changes in Wisconsin law over the past year, including legislative and administrative actions, and impactful court decisions. I9 Audits (Patrick Leigl, Bill Fischer) Every employer is legally required to complete a Form I9 for all new employees, to verify the employee’s identity and employment authorization. An I9 Audit is a process conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations to ensure employers are following legal hiring practices. With the Trump administration’s focus on immigration policy, the I9 Audit has come into the spotlight. This program will take you through the process, from filling out and filing the Form I9, to how to respond to the Notice of Inspection, through the investigation and conclusion. The program will also touch on best practices for employers, including ways to approach internal I9 audits. Use of ChatGPT and AI in Human Resources (Bill Fischer) Used carefully, Artificial Intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT can enhance the role of Human Resource personnel, by increasing efficiency, reducing manual workload, and assisting with compliance management. However, with the benefits comes significant challenges, such as data privacy and security concerns, hidden biases, lack of transparency, ethical considerations and loss of the “human touch.” This presentation will provide an overview of how AI is being used in the HR world, and discuss some of the legal and ethical quandaries that go with it.
